Consumer prices, measured by the national CPI, were 6.17% higher in August than a year earlier, down from 8.16% in July, INS reported on 11 September. The release's headline rounds this to 6.2%.

Prices rose 0.22% from July. The annual rate fell because August 2025, the month it is now measured against, had a much larger monthly rise.

Services were up 11.28% on the year, non-food goods 6.36% and food 2.62%. Fuel rose 3.47% in August alone and 17.03% on the year; rents were 39.70% higher than a year earlier.

GDP in the second quarter was unchanged from the first and 2.0% lower than a year earlier, seasonally adjusted, INS said on 7 September in its provisional estimate. On the unadjusted series the fall was 0.4%. In the first half, household final consumption fell 2.5% in volume while gross fixed capital formation rose 10.9%.

The average net wage was 5,820 lei in July, 1.5% more than in June and 5.5% more than a year earlier, INS reported on 11 September. After prices, it was 2.5% below July 2025 (real wage index 97.5%).

Nothing on the release calendar for 14 to 20 September. The next scheduled items are the BNR rate decision on 8 October, INS average earnings for August on 12 October and national CPI for September on 13 October.

National CPI and HICP are different measures. INS puts August HICP, the EU-harmonised index, at 6.3%. The site's HICP chart comes from Eurostat and still ends at July (8.2%) until Eurostat publishes August.

The July wage comes from the INS release. The site's wage chart reads INS's TEMPO database, which INS says carries July from 14 September, so it still ends at June (5,734 lei).
